Jacquard 2.0 is a combination of digital fabrication and manual craft, giving birth to a new material. Jacquard 2.0 material is a multi-layered, colorful textile that undergoes selective exposure using sensitive laser beam application. The digital manufacutring process is completed by slow and controlled peeling of fabric layers, until full exposure of multiple colours and layers is reached. This manual action, which relates to traditional female crafts such as embroidery and lace-making, reveals depth and color richness, transforming the sheet into a three-dimensional surface. Along with completed panels, one piece was exhibited as participatory work with the visitors, who were invited to peel and reveal the underlying coloured layers in the laser-cut textile.
Jacquard 2.0 returns to the first CNC machine, the Jacquard loom, which allows the creation of an image with color and line freedom, thanks to a binary instruction file
